The Importance of Journaling: For Children AND Adults!

D Y Patil Dnyanshanti School

Journaling or keeping a diary has numerous benefits on the journal keeper that not a lot of people talk about. Even as an adult, it really helps to keep a journal and update it regularly. So to inculcate this habit in your child at a young age can aid their growth greatly. You could always journal in a notebook or, thanks to technology, maintain video journals! In this blog, DYP sheds light on a few great pros of journaling.

Organising your thoughts
Writing in a journal helps make sense of your thoughts. You sometimes tend to overthink or may find yourself in situations where your multiple racing thoughts and worries may overwhelm you. Writing down everything you're thinking or talking to a camera about it and watching it after helps make sense of them and prioritise them better.

Releasing stress
Whenever you have a lot on your mind, it always helps to vent about it to someone you trust. Why not vent to yourself? Write down everything you want to get off your chest or talk to your camera about what's on your mind. You'll instantly feel lighter and more ready to deal with issues at hand.

Memory booster
It is more likely that we remember things we write down. Your brain makes a stronger connection to it, so it's easier to recall in the future. In case you forget, you can always go back and read or watch your entries!

Documenting your life
If you could read a book about your life, wouldn't you? It is a great way to reflect on how your life has played out and an amazing tool for self-growth. The younger you are when you start journaling, the more you have to look back at someday and appreciate.

Encouraging your child to keep a journal will pay off for them in the long run. It is an excellent coping mechanism and could streamline their mental health. Plus, at one point they'd have a book/movie that narrates their entire life! This could be very interesting for them to look back on someday and show parts of to people they meet along the way. Your child and you could experience peace of mind and have more control over your thoughts and emotions, if you choose to keep a journal.
